Why the coach picked it
- $990 vs. $1,995. Add Hydrow's $50/month membership and year one runs $2,595. That's two RowErgs with $615 left over.
- No subscription, ever. Hydrow says membership isn't required but is 'strongly encouraged.' The RowErg's PM5 monitor runs on two D-cells, and the flywheel helps power it while you row.
- Rated to 500 lb by Concept2's own testing. The Wave is rated to 375 lb.
- It splits into two pieces without tools and rolls on casters. The Wave only stands upright with a $190 anchor, sold separately.
- Both frames get 5 years, but Concept2 covers moving parts and the monitor for 2 years. Hydrow covers components, screen and labor for 12 months.
When the other one is the right call
If you won't row unless a coach on a screen is talking you through it, the Wave earns its membership. It's also shorter, 80 in vs. about 96 in, which matters in a small apartment.
